Speech Happenings

Speech Happenings
Fall
Speech classes are off and running! In class, we are working on following auditory directions; that is, following directions that are read aloud. The goals of these lessons are to listen attentively, understand the directions and follow them accurately and totally. The manual page will sometimes be attached to a homework assignment, showing the directions that were read aloud in class. If you see one of these papers in your childs homework, please review this lesson at home.
We are also using pictured situations to work on verbal reasoning and language organization skills. Some of the pictures show both a problem and a solution. Some pictures show a problem, but offer no solution; and others show no problem because the problem will be presented orally. Pictures and spoken questions provide a way to work on organization and
problem solving with language impaired children. Using these pictures also help improve the ability to attend to and answer various types of questions.
In addition, we are working on improving our social language skills during speech class. We are learning about taking turns in a game, listening to others during a conversation, and staying on topic.
Sincerely,
Jody Krueger,
Speech/Language Therapist
